Saturday was the first day in full pads for Texas, and the Longhorns got after it. Second year Head Coach Charlie Strong wants his team to take pride in the program. That start with hard work and high effort. If Strong is wanting his team to play with pride, play with a chip on their shoulder, he probably didn’t hate seeing sophomore tight end Blake Whiteley and junior linebacker Tim Cole get into it following a play.
Strong stressed the importance of competition in a press conference at the start of spring practice.
“What’s happened is guys don’t want to go make a move. There’s nothing wrong with it. Sometimes, you can’t always bring your friends with you. You have your teammates, but you can’t always bring them with you.” Strong said.
“You go be the best player you can be. If [a teammate] doesn’t want to come with you, just leave him behind and we’ll get someone to come with you.”
Texas has a long way to go to get back to national prominence, but Longhorn fans have to love seeing practices like these.
