Reports are coming out of Austin, Texas that offensive lineman Darius James is calling it quits with the Longhorns. He’s decided to transfer out of the program.
Texas OL Darius James tells me he’s been given a release and will be transferring elsewhere. “Yes sir,” he said. Was a 5-star recruit.

It’s a big blow to Charlie Strong’s depth. James was rated the number one guard and 65th best player in the 2013 recruiting class according to rivals.com. He redshirted his first year on campus in 2013, and last season he saw action in six games before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
It’s unknown where James will end up, but it’s rumored that he’s put feelers out to multiple power five conference schools. Should he end up at one of them, he would have to sit out the 2015 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
An interesting wrinkle is that Charlie Strong, and offensive line guru Joe Wickline, have had a pretty hard time holding onto o-lineman since taking over the reins a year ago. James is the fifth player up front to either transfer or be dismissed from the program, and there’s whispers around Austin that he may not be the last. Now, there’s whispers all over college football that are nothing more than rumor, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
