Phil Steele released his 2015 Preseason All-American Teams, and 14 players from the Big 12 made the four teams. Phil releases his preseason All-Americans before the annual release of his much-anticipated magazine, and there’s a few surprises.
USC’s Cody Kessler was named the first team quarterback over both TCU’s Trevone Boykin and Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott. You can check the full list here, but spoiler alert, Ohio State has the most amount of players named with eight. Followed by Alabama with seven.
The SEC had by far the most amount of players named with 32, followed by the Pac-12 with 21, and the Big Ten with 20. The Big 12 had only 14 players named, but when you consider conference size the disparity isn’t nearly as large. The SEC maintains a huge lead, but the Big 12 is right in line with the Pac-12 and Big Ten.

Now this is where it gets interesting. In somewhat of a surprise it’s not TCU or Baylor leading the Big 12. It’s Oklahoma. The Sooners have five players named. That’s a lot of talent for a team widely projected to finish fourth in the conference. Of course, both Baylor and TCU did have players named, three and two respectively. Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and West Virginia also had players named.
Steele released his all-conference teams as well, and will have more on the all-Big 12 team a little bit later today, so be sure and check back! In the mean time here’s the Big 12 players named to Steele’s Preseason All-American teams.
