WVU to Stripe the Stadium for Big 12 Opener

Football might be several weeks away yet, but West Virginia fans have a stripe out, fireworks, and other color themes to look forward to.

Generating fan excitement is a major push for any collegiate program and what better way to do it than to stripe out the stadium? Kansas State announced their plans to do just that to Bill Snyder Family Stadium back in June, and now West Virginia is planning their own stripe out for the Big 12 opener against Oklahoma State.

The last time the Pokes came to town they were 11th in the nation, but were sent back to Stillwater with a loss. This time around the Cowboys are favored to be the Big 12’s dark horse by many, but with a weak non-conference slate, they’ll be untested. This game could determine how each school’s season plays out, and the Mountaineers are more than capable of playing spoiler once again.

If your going to the game, and have tickets in even-numbered sections, you’re being asked to wear gold. Of course for the plan to work those in odd-numbered sections are being asked to wear blue.

Just in case a stripe out isn’t excitement enough for the fans, WVU also announced fireworks following the season opener against Georgia Southern, and two more color themes!  It’s all about keeping the fans engaged and happy. They’re being asked to wear gold for the “Gold Rush” game against Maryland, and all blue is the theme when the Texas Longhorns come to town.

“Mountaineer fans will have several opportunities to display their pride at home games this season,” said Matt Wells, WVU Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs. “From the Gold Rush to Stripe the Stadium to the return of True Blue, we are looking forward to seeing our fans create a tremendous game day atmosphere at Milan Puskar Stadium in 2015.”
