The Big 12 Preseason Media Poll was released on Thursday, and there’s a few surprises. We’ve had a pretty good idea about the general preseason rankings for the Big 12 for a few weeks now, and for the most part it’s been Baylor on top. So it’s somewhat surprising to see the Horned Frogs as the media’s favorite, especially after the Bears had seven players named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with the poll. Most likely the conference comes down between the two at the end of the season, and I don’t see the Bears leaving Fort Worth with a win.

The off-season love for the Sooners continues to mount as they come in ahead of Oklahoma State in third. The Pokes were considered the top challenger to the defending co-champions early on, but as we patiently await the first kickoff they’ve lost some of their luster.

I’m also somewhat surprised to see Texas in the top half of the conference. Strong seems to have the Longhorns on the right track, but let’s see it on the field first. We’ll release our own power rankings here soon, and 3-7 is going to look quite a bit different. What do you all think of these rankings? Spot on, or have they missed the mark?
