It was no secret that Baylor and California were working to kick off the 2016 season in Australia. However, Brett McMurphy of ESPN reported at the beginning of the month that those plans had fallen through.
As ESPN College GameDay legend Lee Corso would say, not so fast my friend!
Baylor coach Art Briles tells me they expect to hear in 2 weeks whether they'll get NCAA waiver to play Cal in Sydney, Australia, in 2016.

A Baylor v Pac-12 game is still in discussions in Australia, but mid-to-late Aug. 2016 timing and missed class time need to be resolved.

If the NCAA grants the waiver, the game would take place a week before the traditional start of the season. Thus the reason for needing a waiver. Personally, I’m all for the Battle of the Bears down under. Anything to shorten the length of the offseason!
