There’s some unfortunate news coming out of Red Raider Nation this afternoon. Texas Tech deep snapper Kyle Heffron suffered a ruptured spleen in a car wreck this morning.

Staking The Plains has been following the incident. It appears that Heffron was listed in stable condition following the crash, but underwent surgery this afternoon.

Kyle, a sophomore, isn’t out of the woods yet, but from the sounds of things, it could have been much worse.

“Officials at the scene said a young man in his early 20’s was ejected from a pickup truck that crashed under the overpass at Marsha Sharp Freeway and University Avenue.”

Coach Kliff Kingsbury released a statement to the media this afternoon.

“We continue to gather information on Kyle’s accident this morning and obviously our primary concern is his health and well-being. We have been in contact with Kyle’s family throughout the day. We all expect that he’ll make a full recovery soon.”

Our thoughts are with Red Raider Nation and the Heffron family. Hopefully, he’ll make a quick return to the gridiron.
