It hasn’t been a great Tuesday for the Longhorns. First news broke that linebacker Cecil Cherry is looking to transfer, and now Horns247 is reporting that running back Duke Catalon is also leaving the program.

“A source with knowledge of the situation tells Horns247 redshirt freshman running back Duke Catalon intends to transfer. Rumors of Catalon leaving the program have floated behind the scenes for some time now, and a source close to the situation told Horns247 the situation with Catalon and Texas came to a head Monday at practice.”
Our @OB_JasonS on Duke Catalon "I'm hearing he walked out of practice yesterday. Writing's been on the wall with this one, IMO."

Monday is also the day Cherry reportedly asked for his transfer papers, which begs the question, what the heck happened in practice on Monday?
Catalon came to Austin as four-star back out of Houston, TX in 2014, and was actually recruited by Major Applewhite and Mack Brown back when he was just a sophomore in high school.
No official reason has been given for the departure, but available playing time may be a factor. Johnathan Gray leads all backs in Austin, and D’Onta Foreman is the favorite behind Gray. True freshmen Chris Warren, Kirk Johnson, and Tristian Houston are also looking for minutes with Tristian competing with Catalon to be the Longhorns’ third down back.
Catalon was also recruited by Texas Tech and SMU, but according to Horns247, Houston is the favorite to land the back.
