[dropcap]B[/dropcap]ig 12 football is oh, so close. Tomorrow TCU opens the season against a gritty Minnesota team. The Horned Frogs are the favorite going in, but
TCU is a favorite to not only win the Big 12, but to end up in the College Football Playoff. Minnesota though is a solid squad though, and won’t just roll over. More than one pundit has TCU on upset watch, but how to those close to the Golden Gophers feel about the game? We spoke with The Daily Gopher to find out!
A huge thank you to site personality GolpherNation for taking time out to answer my questions.
Minnesota seems like one of those teams that always plays people tough, and if you don’t take them seriously, they’ll make you pay. It also seems like head coach Jerry Kill has the Golden Gophers headed in the right direction coming off back-to-back eight-win seasons. Are fans now looking for them to take the next step? What are expectations for 2015 around Minneapolis?
Yes, every season under Jerry Kill has seen steps forward and improvement every year. But this team is getting dangerously close to just being able to beat teams because there is legit talent on the team not just because a team doesn’t take them seriously. The Gophers are clearly not elite or in contention for the playoffs. But on any Saturday, if they are playing well, they can beat anybody. Expectations are that this defense will be the best we have seen in decades, the offense has question marks and they’ll probably finish around 8 wins again. The ceiling is winning the Big Ten West, which is attainable. The floor is probably 6-6.
