The AP and Coaches polls released their week 2 Top 25 rankings on Tuesday. Unsurprisingly, Ohio State leads in both polls after the depantsing of Virginia Tech on Monday night.

The Big 12 continues to be well represented at the top as TCU and Baylor remain in the top four. However Alabama jumped TCU in both polls as the Horned Frogs went on the road and struggled to put away a gritty Minnesota team. Baylor’s second half dismantling of SMU was enough to keep them at fourth though.

Baker Mayfield made a successful debut and led the Sooners to a resounding win over Akron. The performance kept OU at 19th in the AP poll, and earned them a couple of spots in the Coaches Poll as they moved from 19th to 17th.

Kansas State, Oklahoma State and West Virginia were on the outside looking in on preseason polls, and that’s still the case after the first week of action. All three received votes in both polls. Should they continue their winning ways they could start to crack the top 25 as early as week 3.

Of note, the AP put ten SEC teams in the top 25, including the entire SEC West! Thankfully conference should take care of that.
