It’s hard to remember a time there was so much unknown at the QB position around the Big 12 going into the season, but just three weeks later, and it looks like the position is as strong as ever. We’ve got former walk-on Baker Mayfield rewriting the record books at Oklahoma. Freshman Jerrod Heard is showing shades of Vince Young as he gives Longhorn Nation the ray of hope they’ve been so desperately looking for. Mason Rudolph is quietly off to a fantastic start in Stillwater, and Trevone Boykin and Patrick Mahomes continuing to light up scoreboards.
If the first two weeks are any indication, there’s probably going to be some controversy regarding the rankings. So if you don’t agree, let’s hear it: How would you rank them?
7. Sam Richardson (Iowa State)
Overall Richardson’s performance wasn’t terrible. He threw for nearly 270 yards, and accounted for a touchdown in the Cyclones’ double overtime loss. He also committed the quarterback cardinal sin though. On fourth and goal with the game on the line, Richardson was dragged down from behind in open space as he waited for something to open up downfield. Just like that the game was over. That just can’t happen. You have to at least get the pass off to give your team a chance.
