This weekend the Sooners will be shucking tradition as they ‘bring the wood’ against West Virginia.

Saturday will be the first time they’ve worn the alternate uniform this season, they’ll be wearing the red helmet, red jersey, and white pant combination. It’s fitting they’ll be worn against the Mountaineers considering Oklahoma first debuted the threads on the road last season in Morgantown. A game that OU won 45-33. OU then wore the white/red/white combination against Baylor at home, but didn’t fare nearly as well in that game.
Despite OU being steeped in tradition, the look has been well received by the Sooner fan base and the players love them. It’s a great look, and as I’m writing this, I’m noticing there’s a lot of similarities between these, and TCU’s new “Frog Skin” uniforms that debuted this season. Those were met with a mixed reaction, but they’ve grown on me since, especially when mix-matched.
Back to the game at hand though, West Virginia will also be wearing one of their better looks as well. They’ve announced they’ll be wearing their all whites as they come into Norman quite possibly the most well-rounded team in the Big 12.
