The release of week 10’s AP Poll, Coaches Poll, and Sagarin Ratings weren’t very encouraging for the Big 12’s four ranked teams, since none of their rankings changed from last week. Although, that means that all four still rank in the top 15, so it’s not all bad news.
Baylor had a well-timed bye week as they lost starting quarterback Seth Russell to season ending neck surgery. The loss of Russell didn’t affect the Bears rankings in the polls though, as they remained the Big 12’s highest ranked team at second in both polls and third in the Sagarin Ratings.
TCU throttled West Virginia 40-10 in Fort Worth on Thursday night which didn’t mean much in terms of votes, they remain fifth in the AP Poll and third in the Coaches Poll. The computers, however, did recognize TCU’s win over a quality opponent as the Horned Frogs moved up two spots to fourth in the Sagarin Ratings.
Oklahoma State was supposed to be on upset alert this weekend for their game against Texas Tech in Lubbock. The Cowboys found ways to score on offense, defense and special teams on their way to a 70-53 pasting of the Red Raiders. Even with their offensive explosion and gritty win the Cowboys stayed in 12th place in the AP and 10th place in the Coaches poll. Oklahoma State did move up one spot to 14th in the Sagarin Ratings. With games against Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma still ahead the Cowboys will have plenty of opportunities to move up the rankings.
Oklahoma absolutely destroyed Kansas on Saturday as their anger tour carries on after their only loss to Texas. The Sooners were expected to win big against the Jayhawks and were left in 14th place in the AP Polls and 13th in the Coaches Poll, they also dropped one spot to fifth in the Sagarin Ratings.
All four of the Big 12’s ranked teams will play each other in a the last four weeks of the season. The last team standing with the Big 12 crown could be any of the teams currently ranked which should make for a fantastic finish to the season.
