The release of week 12’s AP Poll, Coaches Poll, and Sagarin Ratings have three Big 12 teams moving up the rankings, with just one team dropping down.
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have taken turns with statement wins over the last two weeks, and the voters are taking notice. On Saturday the Sooners’ traveled to Waco and took a previously undefeated Baylor team in the rain; where some late game heroics from Baker Mayfield sealed a 44-34 win for Oklahoma. The voters rewarded the Sooners with a shot up to seventh in both polls. Unfortunately for Baylor, they dropped down to 10th in both polls, but it’s a little surprising it’s not worse.
Oklahoma State went to Ames and were just happy to escape with a 35-31 victory over a very motivated Iowa State team. The Cowboys’ victory kept their perfect season intact and helped them to nudge up to fourth in both polls. (Now, if just the CFB Playoff Rankings would do the same!)
TCU looked to regain their momentum with a statement win over the winless Jayhawks, but instead they found themselves in a dog fight. Any win is acceptable on a Saturday when you have to rely on your third string quarterback though, and TCU did just that. They moved up to 11th, just one spot behind their rival.
The Sagarin ratings continue to be kind (well, depending on which school you look at) with four Big 12 teams ranked in the top eight. Oklahoma State is the only team ranked lower in the Sagarin than they are in the human polls. The road to the Big 12 Championship runs right through Stillwater though, with the Cowboys welcoming Baylor this week and the Sooners the following week for Bedlam. Buckle up because the fun has just begun for the Big 12 this season!
