As fun as March Madness is, there was one possible matchup we all missed out on. Had both Texas and Texas A&M won their first-round games, one of the best rivalries in all of sports would have been renewed on college basketball’s biggest stage.
However UNI thwarted the potential matchup by hitting a half-court buzzer-beater to send the Longhorns back to Austin. The Panthers nearly sent the Aggies packing as well in the Round of 32, but 11 points in 30-some-odd seconds, and a finish so crazy it may never happen again, punched A&M’s ticket to the Sweet 16 – where we got the next best thing to a Texas-Texas A&M matchup: Oklahoma-Texas A&M.
The Sooners were ready for the task. They dominated the former Big 12 team Thursday night, and had their eyes set on the Elite Eight by halftime.
To add a little insult to injury, QB Kyler Murray, who transferred to Oklahoma from Texas A&M at the end of last season, celebrated OU’s win on Twitter.
