It’s being reported by the Ames Tribune that sophomore tight end Scotty Schaffner is planning to transfer from Iowa State after the spring semester. It’s not made immediately clear why Schaffner has decided to leave the program.
Schaffner, a three-star member of the Cyclones’ 2014 recruiting class, has yet to play a down in cardinal and gold. He redshirted his freshman year, and was buried on the depth chart last season.
Heading into the 2016 season the starting tight end position is up for grabs since Ben Boesen has run out of eligibility, and you would think, that with a brand new head coach in Matt Campbell, everyone would get an equal opportunity to impress.
Maybe Schaffner didn’t think he was going to see the field though and is looking for greener pastures, or maybe it’s for reasons unrelated to football altogether. Either way, hopefully Schaffner can find success somewhere else.
