There’s some really unfortunate news coming out Vienna, MO, today. The Jayhawk family has lost one of their own. Former running back Brandon Bourbon was found dead on Friday.
According to Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman, Bourbon was found in a secluded spot along the river about five miles from his last cell phone ping.
“He was located in a very secluded area,”said Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman. “It was down a private drive, a private road, private property not traveled very often. A farmer just went out checking things and noticed a vehicle pulled down into the river.”
Bourbon was reported missing last Sunday after he failed to show up for church. He was found in his vehicle with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
A member of the Jayhawks 2010 recruiting class, Bourbon played three years at Kansas, but missed his senior year due to injury.
“Our hearts are broken to hear the news of the passing of Brandon Bourbon.” Coach David Beaty said in a statement. “Brandon was a wonderful teammate and friend. He was a tireless worker both on the field and in the classroom and was a constant source of inspiration within our program. The entire Jayhawk family cared very deeply for him and he will always be in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon’s family and friends.”
