West Virginia announced some bad news earlier today with the dismissal of running back Donte Thomas-Williams, but over the weekend, they got a bit of good news. Iowa defensive back Maurice Fleming announced on Twitter that he is headed to Morgantown, WV.
Thanks To All The Schools And Their Recruitment But I Will Be Playing @ West Virginia University For My Final Season! Let’s Go #Mountaineers
— Maurice Fleming (@ReeseFleming28) May 12, 2016
As a graduate transfer, Maurice will not be required to sit out a year by the NCAA, and will be available to play right away.
Fleming was a member of the Hawkeyes 2012 recruiting class, and after redshirting his freshman year, he saw action in 33 games over the last three seasons. Last season he played in all 14 games, and earned a start in the 28-20 win over Nebraska late in the season.
No question, Fleming will add some instant depth and experience to the Mountaineer secondary.
Fleming spoke with Rivals about the decision.
“Just looking at how they play defense. I like coach Gibson and just coming in at West Virginia I’ll have a chance to make plays and do something special,” he said. “It was just something about West Virginia. It was just a feeling that I got.”
