According to a press release on Monday, coach Dana Holgorsen has dismissed running back Donte Thomas-Williams from the Mountaineer team. Holgorsen cited violation of team rules as the reason for the redshirt sophomore’s departure, but declined to be any more specific than that.

Thomas-Williams, a four-star recruit, was a highly coveted pick up for the Mountaineers’ 2014 class. Despite his promise, WVU coaches have been frustrated with Thomas-Williams’ approach to the game, and have called him out on it more than once. After redshirting his freshman year, he earned just 14 carries in 2015, and rushed for a total of 43 yards.

It was thought that if Thomas-Williams could buckle down and show a more consistent effort, he could see more playing time in 2016. Especially since Wendell Smallwood bolted early for the NFL.
