TCU Underwhelmed In Win Over South Dakota State

The horned frogs entered the season man pundit’s favorite to win the Big 12. Someone forgot to tell the Jackrabbits. South Dakota State came into Fort Worth and put on a show. A show TCU fans neither asked for nor wanted. The jackrabbits took an early 17-7 and turned what should have been a shellacking of a FCS cupcake into an ulcer causing nail-biter.

“First off, I think you have to give a lot of credit to South Dakota State.” coach Gary Patterson said in the post game press conference. “We knew coming in that the tight end and wide receivers were good players. It’s really my fault. We didn’t do a good job handling their shifts. We changed some things around and settled down, and better things happened to us.”

The TCU offense would wake up after a shaky start with Kenny Hill, the Texas A&M transfer, at the helm. After throwing interceptions on consecutive drives Hill would go on to account for 5 touchdowns (2 pass, 3 rush).

The TCU defense surrendered 333 yards through the air and yielded 41 points to the FCS Jackrabbits but managed to clamp down late in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. While the defense struggled throughout the night, penalties also plagued the Frogs (12-125).

TCU will head to Fayetteville next week to take on Arkansas who squeaked by Louisiana Tech 21-20. Hopefully Gary Patterson can get his guys to focus in, stop with the penalties and, being that TCU defense back to life.

Was this a case of getting caught looking ahead to stiffer competition, or should Horned Frog Nation be alarmed? We won’t know for another week. However, last night’s performance caused a few eyebrows to raise on what has been a crazy opening weekend.

Emptying The Notebook

We expect full ESPN coverage on how good South Dakota State is, and that they would hang with anyone.

We’re not quite sure what Riff Ram means…

TCU wasn’t the only one having performance issues.

Kenny Hill, everybody
