In his press conference Monday morning, head coach Bob Stoops announced that star running back Samaje Perine will miss the next two weeks, and possibly three, with a hamstring injury.

Perine injured his hamstring on a 25-yard touchdown catch early in Oklahoma’s 38-17 win over Kansas State. He rushed three times for 14 yards before being injured.

Immediately after the game Stoops indicated that Perine wasn’t hurt too bad, and could have been called upon if they had needed him. It looks the pulled muscle may be a little worse than originally thought.

Up next the Sooners play Texas Tech with and a Patrick Mahomes that doesn’t seem to be entirely healthy, himself. Then they face Kansas and Iowa State in successive weeks.

The 2-3 week time frame for recovery would have him back in time to help close out the season against a brutal gauntlet of West Virginia, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Perine has rushed for 475 yards and six touchdowns so far this season.

In Perine’s absence, Joe Mixon will see his workload increase. He earned most of the carries for the rest of the day with 19, but finished with just 88 yards.
