Today is the day fans of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and other hopeful candidates will officially find out which of them will be invited to the Big 12. Or, at least, it was supposed to be. After months of speculation, it appears the Big 12 won’t be expanding after all, but regardless, the October 17th Big 12 board meeting has been a date circled on the calendar for a while now.
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby and board of directors chair David Boren would be holding a press conference following the board of directors meeting at around 5:30 pm CT, and you can watch it live.

Many have speculated that this press conference could be used to announce new realignment news, and gas was added to the realignment rumors when KSL-TV news anchor and BYUtv sportscaster Dave McCann tweeted that the press conference would be streamed live on the BYUtv channel.
With fans clinging to any kind of hope, is this an indicator of where the Big 12 might be heading with this press conference? Not likely. More likely, they will be streaming their rejection live as Sports Illustrated reported last week that the Big 12’s television partners are prepared to offer the Big 12 more money to not expand, and to do away with the pro rata clause to the contract.
Come back here to watch the press conference at 5:30 CST. We will also have updates and analysis of any breaking news to come out of today’s meetings, so be sure to check in throughout the day.
