Texas Tech offensive lineman Justin Murphy has played in nine games this season and started in eight of them. However, against Oklahoma State on Saturday, Murphy was noticeably absent.

On Monday coach Kliff Kingsbury informed the media during his weekly press conference that Murphy made the decision to retire from football on Sunday night.

When questioned about why Murphy was hanging up the cleats, coach Kingsbury indicated it was due to injury.

“I guess his injuries,” Kingsbury said, “you’ll have to take that up with him.”

It’s unclear what injury Murphy has suffered, or its extent, but the talented lineman also missed a significant portion of last season after suffering an injury in the Baylor game.

You hate to see a career ended this way, but we wish him the best of luck moving forward.
