2016 has been a wild ride for Oklahoma. After starting the season 1-2 and tumbling down the rankings, the Sooners found their stride and ripped off 9 straight wins to run the Big 12 table undefeated, and climbed back into the top 10, and earned a birth to the Sugar Bowl.
Allstate Sugar Bowl
14 Auburn vs 7 Oklahoma

In the years the Sugar Bowl isn’t a semifinal game, it features the highest ranked teams from the Big 12 and the SEC. The Big 12’s birth came without controversy, but the same cannot be said for the SEC’s. With Alabama in the College Football Playoff, the spot goes to the next highest ranked team. That team is #14 Auburn, finishing three spots higher in the rankings over Florida, despite the Gators having played in the SEC Championship game.
The Tigers finished the season 8-4 with marquee wins over #18 LSU in week four and a 56-3 beat down of then #17 Arkansas in week eight.
The last time the Sooners were invited to the Sugar Bowl they pulled off the upset as a big underdog to Alabama. This time they are an early 4.5 point favorite, but Baker Mayfield, Dede Westbrook, Samaje Perine, and Joe Mixon will have their work cut out for them against the Tiger’s fifth-best scoring defense.
