Art Briles is back in the news again. The former Baylor head coach has sued school officials for libel/slander and conspiracy. Those named are three school regents — Chairman Ronald Murff, board members J. Cary Gray and David Harper — and Vice President Reagan Ramsower.
Briles continues to claim ignorance to the alleged gang rapes and other sexual violence accusations caused by Baylor football players that haunted the campus over the final two years of his reign as coach. The lawsuit claims that the Baylor officials falsely accused Briles of knowing of the heinous activities and also that he failed to report when he did find out.
As a result, Briles also says that this false accusations have kept him from returning to the sidelines as a head coach elsewhere.
This has been a dark cloud over the Baylor program since Briles was fired last May. The lawsuit was filed in Llano County. This was first reported by the Washington Post.
