Baylor’s recruiting class has gone, as the teens say, 0 to 100 in the last month. Matt Rhule has been a man on a mission since arriving in Waco – securing commitments from 23 players since being hired back in early December. Word around the program is that he still wants five more guys, and that means a hectic signing day for the Bears.
Baylor doesn’t have a ton of needs remaining, so the rest of the class is mostly just about adding talent, and there’s plenty of talent that will be added very soon.
CURRENT CLASS NATIONAL RANK: 38TH
The 5th best class in the Big 12 (that will change) focuses a lot on quantity, rather than quality, as 23 of the 24 commitments are considered 3-star prospects. That doesn’t mean that they’re bad players, it likely just means there’s a lot of raw talent in this group. Xavier Newman, Gavin Holmes, RJ Sneed, and Trestan Ebner are all top 500 players, and many consider them possible sleepers that flew under the radar. With that being said, college coaches are never satisfied with what they have, and the Bears should be adding at least 4 more players between now and the end of signing day.
TOP TARGETS REMAINING
|DeMarco Artis||Seminole, FL||OLB||34||⭐⭐⭐||BAY|
|Devodrick Johnson||Dallas, TX||OLB||19||⭐⭐⭐||TAMU|
|Justin Harris||Gonzales, LA||DE||24||⭐⭐⭐||BAY|
|B.J. Thompson||England, AR||TE||59||⭐⭐⭐||BAY|
I could see every guy on this list choosing Baylor. Both Artis and Johnson will be announcing tonight, and while I’m more sure about Artis, I think both will be committing to Baylor.
On signing day, Harris and Thompson will both be committing, and unless something changes, they’ll both be choosing Baylor. Look for Thompson to make it official at 2:30 PM.
Baylor absolutely needed a strong finish to this class, and they got one. They only had one player committed when Rhule was hired, and he’s done an incredible job filling some needs, and filling this class in a short amount of time. Get ready for a wild signing day, Baylor fans.
If anything interesting happens tomorrow, we’ll be here to cover it, and check back after NSD as we’ll cover the 2017 class and how it address the Bears’ needs.
