Kansas pulled off a huge surprise on signing day. 3-star (ESPN 4-star) junior college running back Octavius Matthews was expected by most to stay in the southeast footprint, picking Auburn, Tennessee, or Louisville, but he spurned all three of those schools today, as he announced his intentions to play his next 2 years at Kansas, via his twitter account.

THE MATTHEWS FILE
|Name||Hometown||Position||Position Ranking||Star Rating|
|Octavius Matthews||Stevenson, AL||HB||1 (JUCO)||⭐⭐⭐|
The addition of Matthews gives Kansas 21 players in their 2017 recruiting class, 20 of them being 3 stars, and moves them to 66th in the 247 class rankings, hopping Houston, and Purdue.
Matthews is a guy that Kansas should be very excited about. He’s the best running back in the junior college ranks, and will give Kansas an immediate spark on the offensive side of the ball. He’s powerful, runs upright, and has elite breakaway speed. He’s an excellent player, and should compete for a starting job immediately at Kansas.
