Social media is the outlet we use to express our thoughts, views and other general nonsense to the world. It is really quite a wonderful place.
It is also the place where athletes share their Twitter beefs. We go live now to West Virginia Twitter:
That’s right, former Mountaineer and current Oakland Raiders outside linebacker Bruce Irvin and recent graduate quarterback Skyler Howard are letting each other have it on Twitter. Muskets are firing all over the internet.
Twitter wars in sports are no stranger to news but Twitter wars between two athletes from the same era and same university is cause for making some popcorn and enjoying the ride.
Howard, a scrappy competitor on the field who constantly kept fighting despite receiving some nasty hits over two seasons, was in no mood to let Irvin trash him on the Twittersphere. Apparently during the Russell Athletic Bowl. Irvin did not appreciate Howard’s play for his alma mater — calling him an NAIA quarterback.
Irvin even predicted Howard to “run a slow a** 40” at West Virginia pro day.
West Virginia fans appear to be on the fence in terms of who to side with. Irvin after all was an all-conference performer with the Mountaineers and a Super Bowl champion in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. Howard has endured criticism from media and Mountaineer fans alike for his inconsistent play but had a few memorable moments while at West Virginia.
Between this and the other Big 12 news dropping over the last few hours, this is certainly on the more comedic side. The question now will be, will Irvin be a prophet in predicting Howard’s dismal professional career or will the former Mountaineer quarterback make Irvin rue the day he tossed shade his way? Color us intrigued.
The offseason is fun, isn’t it?
