Red Raider fans in and around the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex will want to mark their calendars for April 1st. No April Fool’s joke here, Texas Tech has announced that the 2017 Spring Game will be held The Star in Frisco at 3:00 pm.
The Star is the Dallas Cowboys fancy new 91-acre world headquarters and practice facility, and according to the press release, this will be the first time a collegiate athletic event has been held in the facility.
“We are excited for this opportunity to continue to grow our partnership with a world-class organization such as the Cowboys,” Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in the announcement. “This will be a tremendous experience for not only our student-athletes but our fans in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Star will be the perfect setting to showcase our program and our university.”
The game will be held indoors with a seating capacity of 12,000. If you can’t make it to the spring game, not to worry. One, the game is expected to be televised, but those details will be announced later, and two, the Red Raiders are expected to hold two other spring events open to the public.
It’s a pretty cool idea holding it at The Star considering that Lubbock is a bit of a drive to get to, and most of the alumni don’t live in Lubbock area. Typically, the Red Raiders hold a spring game in Midland, TX, but moving it to the DFW area is a no-brainier as there’s probably a recruiting advantage there as well. If you’re a recruit, would you rather go to Lubbock or Midland, TX, or go tour the Dallas Cowboys multi-million dollar training facility?
