WVU Moves Opener To Sunday Prime Time
The Mountaineer’s season opener rivalry game against the Hokies has been moved to Sunday prime time.
It doesn’t get much better than a long-time rivalry to kick off the season, so it is no surprise that the matchup between West Virginia and Virginia Tech has been moved prime time on Sunday, September 3.
When the Mountaineers and the Hokies take to FedEx Field it will the first time in 12 years that these two teams have met in battle for the Black Diamond Trophy. West Virginia holds the series edge at 28-21-1, but Virginia Tech won the last two meetings in 2004 and 2005.
This also won’t be the first time the Mountaineers have played at FedEx Field. The neutral site has treated them well twice before. They defeated James Madison there in 2012 to the tune of 42-12 and last year WVU beat BYU 35-32.
For fans making the trip to the game, playing Sunday evening will most likely mean having to take off the following Monday. However, should they decide to do so, they will be treated to one of college football’s best game atmospheres, what should be a great game, and the debut of highly anticipated quarterback Will Grier.
