The first Big 12 player has been selected in the draft with the Chiefs selection of Patrick Mahomes II with the 10th overall pick, and they traded up from the 27th pick to get him.

The selection not only gives the Big 12 a top 10 selection, but it also means the conference had a player chosen before the Big Ten conference. And at the rate offensive players are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Big 12 sees another player or two go before the night is over.
In the meantime, let’s take a look at what the Chiefs are getting. Mahomes finished his Texas Tech career with 11,252 passing yards, 308 rushing yards, and 115 total touchdowns! Mahomes has some things to work on at the next level like footwork and taking snaps under center, but what makes Mahomes special is his combination of arm strength, accuracy, a quick release, escapability, and awareness of what is happening down field. I don’t care what system you are in, you put those things together and you have something special.

That ball placement though…
One of about a 1,000 highlights from this game…
this game has THIS play. Mahomes does everything RIGHT, he's ready to throw underneath but the OL gets pushed in him but he makes it WORK pic.twitter.com/GfdCXbqDds
