Less than 24 hours after Patrick Mahomes II was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 10th overall pick in the draft, receiver Jonathan Giles brought the party in Lubbock to a screeching halt by announcing his transfer from the program. Now we know where Giles will end up. The receiving standout announced on Twitter that he is headed to LSU.

Since Giles is not a graduate transfer, he will have to sit out the 2017 season. However, since he has not used his redshirt year, he will not lose any eligibility.
Giles’ decision to transfer was the beginning of a string of unfortunate news for the Red Raiders. Since his announcement, Texas Tech lost the commitment of 3-star receiver Treveon Johnson, and then fellow receiver Tony Brown also decided to transfer away from the program.
The Red Raiders have a talented receiving corps, but the loss of Giles’ experience is sure to be felt as Tech will have to break in a new quarterback in Mahomes’ absence.
