Just in case the Longhorns landing the top running back in Texas a yesterday wasn’t enough for you, Tom Herman has done it again. After landing one of their top offensive targets on Tuesday, Texas has now landed one of their top defensive targets, as DeMarvion Overshown committed to the Longhorns just minutes ago. Overshown was considered a Texas lock since the Longhorns offered in December, just days after Tom Herman was hired, and now, nearly seven months later, he’s finally pulled the trigger.

Overshown isn’t just a future college football all-name team member, he’s also one of the most heavily recruited players in the country. As one of the best safeties in the country, DeMarvion held offers from many of the top schools in college football, including Ole Miss, Stanford, TCU, Texas A&M, USC, Alabama, Baylor, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Not many players can boast an offer sheet that impressive, and DeMarvion absolutely deserves that much interest.

Overshown is the tenth recruit to join the 2018 class for Texas, and the second safety, along with Caden Sterns. This will be a defensive back heavy class for Texas, and both Caden and DeMarvion will look to “foster” the recruitment of some other top uncommitted defensive backs that Texas is targeting.

On the field, DeMarvion’s play really speaks for itself. He’s a tackle machine (153 last year!!), and one of the hardest safeties in the 2018 recruiting class. Watch the first play of his highlights if you want to see that hitting for yourself (it’s worth it). He’s not great in coverage, but because of his ability to hit and play the run, he’ll compliment a more pass coverage oriented Caden Sterns very nicely. Tom Herman has put an emphasis on bringing in excellent athletes that love the game, and DeMarvion definitely fits that mold. At 6-foot-4, he has incredible size, and uses it to his advantage whenever he can. His ceiling comparison is an obvious one, Kam Chancellor.
