Earlier today, the second hottest team in the Big 12 on the recruiting trail, Baylor, landed a commitment. The hottest team on the recruiting path right now, Texas, just landed another, this time from Saint Louis linebacker Ayodele Adeoye. Often in recruiting, a team will pick up a large amount of recruits in a short amount of time, as a way to drum up hype around the program. It may sound silly, but it really does have an impact, and Tom Herman understands that. We’re seeing that tactic being used flawlessly in Austin right now.

THE ADEOYE FILE
Adeoye was on campus this weekend, and after a being considered a Texas lean since being offered back in April. He was the top linebacker on the board for the Longhorns, and his commitment is an extremely important one for how Texas will approach the rest of their linebacker targets in the class. He’s the 11th commitment in the 2018 class, and second linebacker, along with Byron Hobbs. He might be the last linebacker as well, as the staff isn’t looking at too many more.
Adeoye picked Texas over a massive offer sheet, that included Illinois, Missouri, LSU, Arkansas, Florida, Louisville, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. Illinois was the main competition for his commitment, though Missouri was thought of as being a possibility as well. However, after receiving the Texas offer, Adeoye was pretty sure that was where he wanted to be, and his visit just confirmed that.
On the field, Adeoye is a scary sight for opposing offenses. He plays about as fast, and as aggressively as you could possibly want from a linebacker. He’s athletic, strong, and comes with a bit of a mean streak. If you like hard-hitting linebackers, you’re going to love this kid. He’s a prototypical middle linebacker, and while he struggles in coverage occasionally, he has all the tools to be a star at the next level. His ceiling comparison is NaVorro Bowman.
