The Sooners Are The Media’s Pick To Win The Big 12

The 2017 Big 12 Football Media Preseason Poll was released on Thursday.

USA Today Sports - Kevin Jairaj

To be the king, you have to beat the king. At least that’s how the media sees it. The Big 12 announced the 2017 Media Preseason Poll, and Oklahoma is the favorite to win it all.

2017 Big 12 Football Media Preseason Poll

Rank School Points
1 Oklahoma (19) 303
2 Oklahoma State (12) 294
3 Kansas State (1) 231
4 Texas 213
5 TCU 202
6 West Virginia 183
7 Baylor 129
8 Texas Tech 85
9 Iowa State 83
10 Kansas 37

It’s hard to disagree with too much on this list. Although Texas is getting a lot of love, and I am one that wants to see it on the field before I totally buy into the hype this time around. Oklahoma may be the favorite, but it was not a runaway vote. Oklahoma State received nearly 40% of the first place votes, and Kansas State also picked a first place vote, which speaks to the strength of the conference this year.

I might move Iowa State up the rankings a spot or two, but if anyone has a grip with the results, it is West Virginia. The Mountaineers are commonly thought of as a dark horse contender this season, and if you so much as think the name Will Grier, a WVU fan will appear out of thin air to ask you if you have heard about their lord and savior.

Dana Holgorsen and Co. have much bigger plans than finishing sixth in the conference, and most of you agree. In our fan poll earlier this year, the Mountaineers finished fourth behind Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and K-State.
