2017 Big 12 Position Group Preview, By The Numbers: QB

Baylor – 49

The number of passing touchdowns quarterback Anu Solomon has in his collegiate career.

Baylor enters the season with a quarterback battle in fall camp. On the positive side, they have strong options at their disposal in presumed starter Zach Smith and Arizona transfer Anu  Solomon. Incoming freshman is Charlie Brewer is also expected to compete for the starting job, but given the experience of Smith and Solomon he is likely to be red-shirted.

Solomon is a mobile quarterback and has had success in the past as evidenced by leading Arizona to the Fiesta Bowl in 2014. Smith, a sophomore, started the last 4 games of the season after the injury to starter Seth Russell. Smith and Solomon have very comparable career passing stats, albeit Smith’s has only 4.5 games of playing time.

Both players have completed 59 percent of their passes, average under 8 yards per attempt and have comparable passer efficiency ratings. Style of play is what differentiates the two, as Solomon has more mobility and rushed for over 400 yards in his career.
