Baylor – 1
The national ranking of Baylor’s offense from 2013 to 2015.
The Baylor offense from the past is gone, but what the offense will look like is still a mystery under new head coach Matt Rhule. While at Temple, Rhule deployed a two tight end, pro-style offense. However, Baylor has two co-offensive coordinators that ran different styles of offense last season. Jeff Nixon was on the offensive staff under Chip Kelly with the San Francisco 49ers and Glenn Thomas was Temple’s offensive coordinator under Rhule. Regardless, even if Rhule implements some spread offensive schemes, the offense will likely be considerably different than the one that led the nation in scoring from 2013 to 2015 under Art and Kendall Briles.
Due to the scheme change, Baylor will likely use the tight end more than in years past. Senior Jordan Feuerbacher is on the pre-season Mackey watch list and could be a big target in the passing game. Former Baylor basketball player Ish Wainwright was recruited by Matt Rhule after his basketball eligibility expired and will play football for the first time since his freshman year in high school. Along with Feuerbacher and Wainwright, Quan Jones will also see time. All three players have a combined 20 career receptions.
