What a difference a year makes. After falling to Northern Iowa last season, Iowa State is currently leading their in-state foe 42-17. And I’m sure if you asked receiver Allen Lazard he would tell you winning the game is the most important thing, but this game is special for another reason. With 12:11 remaining in Iowa State’s season opener, Lazard became the Cyclone’s all-time receptions leaders.
With 170 receptions to his name in his career, Lazard entered the game just six catches shy of the record. With his seventh catch on the night, Lazard broke the record with a 15-yard pass for a first down deep into Northern Iowa territory.

Lazard is third over all in reception yards. With his 84 yards so far tonight, he needs just 188 more yards to pass Lane Danielsen, and just 594 more yards to pass Todd Blythe to become the Cyclones receiving yards leader. Lazard finished last season with over a 1,000 receiving yards, so it would appear to be a matter of when Lazard will set the new record, not if.
