The TCU Horned Frogs have entered the college football playoff discussions and the top 10 of the Associated Press Top 25 Poll after a signature win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater. TCU rose seven spots to number 9 in the poll released on Sunday. Georgia is the other newcomer to the top 10 coming in at number seven after an impressive victory over Mississippi State at home. The top five remained unchanged from last week.

Oklahoma State tumbled from number six all the way to number 15 after the loss to TCU. Given the amount of respect rightfully being given to TCU, it seems odd that the Cowboys would fall nine spots. That is the steepest drop of any team this week, even though they still had a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter against a team that was ranked 16th entering the game. The Cowboys were the darlings of college football last week, but this week’s AP Poll proves how quickly you can move from the penthouse to the outhouse. Regardless, OSU will need to rebound quickly as they travel to Lubbock for a primetime showdown against an improved Texas Tech squad.

West Virginia re-entered the top 25 this week at number 23 giving the Big 12 four teams in the rankings. The Mountaineers travel to face TCU after an upcoming bye week for each team in a matchup that figures to have profound impacts to the CFP and Big 12 standings.

Speaking of Texas Tech, they are currently sitting just outside the top 25 after a pivotal victory at Houston. It is clear that the Red Raiders were underestimated entering this season, and the defense has shown clear improvement. Texas Tech actually has a pretty impressive resume considering their preseason outlook. They dominated FCS powerhouse Eastern Washington, avenged their loss from last season to Arizona State and beat one of the better Group of 5 teams in Houston. Tech even held large leads over both Arizona State and Houston, but they failed to put them away as both teams came back to make the games closer than they should have been.
