The Longhorns offense appeared to get a bit of good news on Monday. Tom Herman announced in his weekly press conference that Texas left tackle Connor Williams will forego surgery on the injured MCL he sustained in Los Angeles when Texas played USC.
Williams is thought to be a possible first round pick in the 2018 draft, so his loss is a major blow to an offense that has been struggling to start the 2017 season.
He will be re-evaluated within the next two to three weeks. The injury to Williams’s left leg has prompted Texas to shuffle their offensive line the last few weeks and put true freshman tackle Derek Kerstetter into action as a starter up front.
The news means Williams could return to the Texas starting lineup sooner than anticipated. Originally there was speculation he would not be able to return until some time in November, if at all.
