For the second time in three games, it looks like there will be a different starter at quarterback for the Longhorns.
Multiple news outlets have been reporting that true freshman Sam Ehlinger is expected start against the Kansas State Wildcats tomorrow evening.
Sophomore QB Shane Buechele, who was the starter coming into this season, will most likely miss the game due to injury.
Buechele sustained a sprained ankle against Iowa State in Texas’ win last Thursday over the Cyclones. He was reportedly seen in a walking boot following that game, in which he ran the ball 13 times.
This would be the third game this season that Buechele will have missed due to injury. He suffered a bruised shoulder in the Longhorns’ season opener against Maryland and Ehlinger was the starter in games against San Jose State and USC.
A fan favorite, Ehlinger exhibited late game heroics to help get Texas a lead in the 4th quarter against USC. The Longhorns would go on to lose that game, but offensive struggles against Iowa State last week have had some fans calling for change.
Ehlinger will step onto the field Saturday facing the best pass defense in the Big 12. This would be his first start in conference play.
