The Big 12’s first bowl game is about to get under way, and we are making our picks. South Florida is favored in the game by Vegas, but who’s taking the Red Raiders to get the conference its first post-season win? Let’s find out.
CHRIS: Texas Tech
Both teams are beatable, and it’s easy to see how Quinton Flowers is most likely the difference maker in this one. However, I think the win over Texas was a big boost for this Texas Tech team, and we’ve seen the Raiders make defensive improvements this year. While not a great defense, they are at least on the field now, and they’ve had some extra time to prepare for USF. I think we see some the non-conference magic the Red Raiders played with at the beginning of the year return. Give me Tech.
MADRID: South Florida
South Florida is the hot pick, but who have they played this season? Their best game is a loss to UCF, a bitter rival. Then again, the quarterback situation at Texas Tech is kind of weird and their defense isn’t special, so i’ll take Quinton Flowers to drop a 50-piece on them.
JOSH: South Florida
I’ll take the Bulls. I think the difference will be Flowers and his athleticism. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tech jump out to a quick lead, but I think the USF pass rush will get to Shimonek enough to give them the win.
TAYLOR: Texas Tech
Not impressed by who USF has beat. With Kliff guaranteed to come back next year, I like Tech to get some momentum going towards 2018.
PATRICK: South Florida
I’ve got USF. Tech’s offense has underwhelmed me at times this year, and with that defense still very beatable, I think Quinton Flowers could put 60 on them.
