Big 12 vs The World

Three Big 12 Teams Make Final AP Top 25 Poll

Sooners, Horned Frogs and Cowboys make final AP Top 25.

The college football season has come to a close, which means it’s time for the AP’s final Top 25 poll. And, after winning the Championship in dramatic fashion, it’s no surprise that Alabama comes in first. But what about everyone else?

Unfortunately, the final rankings weren’t kind to the conference. Despite sending eight teams bowling, just three teams made the poll. Of those three teams though, two are in the top 10 and all three are in the top 15. Oklahoma finishes third, right behind second-ranked Georgia, and TCU is 9th after beating Stanford in the Alamo Bowl. Oklahoma State beat Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl and is 14th in the poll.

The most glaring Big 12 omission from the poll is Iowa State. The Cyclones did receive votes after beating 20th-ranked Memphis in the Liberty Bowl, but it wasn’t enough to jump the Tigers as Memphis finished 25th in the rankings. Somewhat surprisingly, K-State did not receive any votes despite winning five of their last six games which includes a win over Oklahoma State and a win over UCLA in the Cactus Bowl. They were a different team down the stretch, but an 8-5 record was just too much for the pollsters to look past.
