Big 12 Uniform Review: Sooners, Longhorns Big Winners, Cyclones Not so Much

And the best dressed award for week two goes to…

We live in a day and age where how college teams look on the football field is just as important as they perform. For the Big 12, week one was a mixed bag on both points. But while others will handle the game recaps and observations, I’m just worried about whether your team won the “first look” of the season or not.

The Sooners stuck with their traditional Red-Red-White look for a second week in a row. And just like week one, they looked just as good both in their uniforms and in their performance.

The Longhorns returned home this week and while they struggled on the field, at least they looked good. White-Orange-White. WOW is right. The Longhorns have classic, fantastic uniforms. That says, they would have finished higher if not for new black shoes. 4.5 stars

Kansas State

Like OU, Kansas State had a week one repeat in week two. Unlike OU, the Wildcats did NOT look good on the field. At least they looked good in defeat in their classic Silver-Purple-Silver combo. 4 stars

Oklahoma State

While some don’t care for the grey pants, I think they look great, especially combined with the black helmets and black jerseys. The orange numbers POP on the black jerseys beautifully. I’d rate these higher if it weren’t for the overly ornate, Ed Hardy helmets. 4 stars

The Mountaineers looked good in their win, rocking their classic Blue-Blue-White look. I really do love the WVU colors, the navy and yellow. I just can’t get past the weird font. 3.75 stars

The Purple-White-White combo this week is a major upgrade from week one. I love the thick white stripe down the helmet. It’s bold and makes the TCU helmet my favorite of the week. I would rate this one higher, but I know TCU can do even better. 3.75 stars

Kansas – 3.5

There is nothing wrong with this look. It’s just not as good as last week. Blue-White-Blue was solid and I still really like the helmet with “KU” on one side and the Jayhawk on the other. The first road in 9 years certainly didn’t hurt. 3.5 stars

KU Athletics

Texas Tech

The Red Raiders went Black-Black-Grey. Unfortunately, Oklahoma State did it much better. What’s with the red/white Vs pattern on the jersey? Under Armour. SMH. 3 stars

I love all white combos. But this was more like White-White-Pee Yellow-White. Seriously, what’s up with those shoulder pads. That’s awful. 3 stars

Iowa State

The Cyclones are the big losers this week, both in uniform and on the field. Their Red-White-Red wasn’t just terrible. The problem is I just don’t love their new uniforms. The yellow accents don’t look all that great. Sorry ‘Clones. 2.75 stars
