The Thursday night matchup looked like anything but a Big 12 game. The defensive struggle was especially surprising since Texas Tech was involved.

There was a time that if the Red Raiders finished with just 17 points, it would have meant that they got blown out. This isn’t the same Red Raiders of the past several years though, and 17 points on Thursday night meant they won by three.

The Red Raiders now have a defense, and they played lights out against Shawn Robinson and the Horned Frogs. Robinson has shown flashes of brilliance all season, but against Texas Tech, he couldn’t find any magic. The Red Raiders held him to 26 completions on a whopping 45 attempts and picked him off twice. The Horned Frog’s final play of the game pretty much summed up their night.

The Raiders had some QB struggles of their own. Third string quarterback Jett Duffey filled in the for injured Alan Bowman and McLane Carter, and had a rough first half. Going into halftime, Texas Tech had just three points, forcing Kliff Kingsbury to make a change and Carter took over under center to start the second half. However, the banged up Carter only lasted one drive before he went back to the bench.

Kingsbury called on Duffey once again, and this time Duffey delivered as he led the Red Raiders to a touchdown on the very next drive with a 62-yard strike to Ja’Deion High.

Duffey also scored the go-ahead touchdown midway through the fourth quarter with a 38 yard QB-keeper.

For TCU moving forward, well, I can’t sum it up any better than coach Patterson.

“This program’s been here before gentlemen,” Patterson said after the game. “It doesn’t look good when you’re 3-3 and you’re looking right down the middle of Oklahoma and they have two weeks to prepare for you.”

For Texas Tech, they are 4-2 with a great shot at bowl eligibility as right now, they would likely be favored against Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor.
