UPDATE: McClendon was benched in favor of Charlie Brewer late in the third quarter.
After reports surfaced Friday night that Charlie Brewer had been cleared from concussion protocol, it looked like he would get the start against Oklahoma State on Saturday. Come game time though, coach Matt Rhule trotted out quarterback Jalan McClendon to run the offense.
This is the first start for the graduate transfer from NC State. He came in for the injured Brewer last week, and completed 16 of his 21 attempts for 183 yards in a losing effort to West Virginia.
Unfortunetly for McClendon, today’s game didn’t get off to the best start. After leading Baylor down the field on their opening drive, McClendon targeted Tyquan Thornton in the back of the end zone for the score. What McClendon missed was that Oklahoma State’s Rodarius Williams had Thornton covered up, and made the easy interception for the touchdown. It was McClendon’s second pick of the season.

Things got a bit better in the second quarter as McClendon lead the the Bears down the field and capped the drive off by punching it into the end zone to tie it up in Waco. So far, McClendon is seven for 11, for 87 yards.
