The Jayhawks fell to Iowa State 27-3 on Saturday, and it appears that Kansas officials have seen enough. Sportsradio 810 WHB out of Kansas City, MO, is reporting that David Beaty has been fired, and an official announcement should be made by Sunday.

Beaty took over the Jayhawk football program in 2015, and started to find a traction in 2016 highlighted by a big win over Texas. Following the season, Beaty was given a contract extension to  2021, and a raise to $1.6 million with a $100,000 raise each year.

“This is a commitment to the overall football program,” Zenger said at the time, “that we believe he and the staff and the players are headed in the right direction.”

However, 2017 was a big step back for the program, and Beaty has been on the hot seat ever since. They were no longer competitive with the rest of the conference, and the big win over the Longhorns seemed like ages ago.

The Jayhawks are 3-6 on the season, and if reports are true, the move is somewhat surprising considering Kansas pulled off the big win over TCU just a week ago, and Iowa State isn’t exactly the pushover they used to be.

The timing is also curious with early signing period coming up. Although, recruiting hasn’t been a strong point for Beaty during his time in Lawrence. The Jayhawks have just one commitment in the 2019 class, and their class currently ranks 171 in the nation. Yes, 171. There’s only 130 FBS Teams. Which means, their recruiting class ranks behind 41 other Division II teams. That’s not great.

Beaty’s buyout is north of $3 million, and there’s no word yet on a possible interim head coach.  However, Soren Petro also has a possible replacement for Beaty.

UPDATE: More reports Beaty is out.
