As Oklahoma and Texas prepare to face off in the Big 12 Championship tomorrow, let’s take a look at the tale of the tape. We can look at each team’s season averages on offense and defense and compare that to their first matchup to see where the battle was won.
Let’s get the obvious out of the way. The Sooner’s strength is offense, and they put up more on the Texas defense than most. But that is to be expected against an offense that potent. The Longhorn’s strength is defense, and while they gave up more than their season averages, they held the Sooners to under their season averages.
On the flip side of the ball, the Longhorn’s offense found its stride under quarterback Sam Ehlinger, and hung more points and yards than an already porous defense was used to giving up.
It’s pretty easy to see why Texas got the win the first time around, and if Texas wants to keep the bragging rights, they will have to have a similar performance.
