If you were looking for a sign that college football is almost here, this might be it.

On Thursday, the first Amway Coaches Poll for the 2019-2020 season was released. Three Big 12 teams were among the Top 25 with four more teams receiving votes.

The Big 12 In The Poll

4. Oklahoma
10. Texas
24. Iowa State

Receiving Votes: TCU, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Baylor

What’s interesting about the poll is the fact that West Virginia picked up more votes than Oklahoma State and Baylor, two teams that were picked to finish ahead of the Mountaineers in the Big 12 Preseason Media Poll.

Defending National Champions Clemson were voted No. 1 and received 59 first place votes, followed by Alabama who picked up the other six first place votes available.

While the coach’s poll is a fun way to start talking about the season, it has no barring on who makes the play-off, and is not the poll used by networks when ranking teams. That falls to the AP Top-25 college football poll, which will be released at 12 p.m. EST on Monday, Aug. 19.

The first College Football Playoff poll, the one that really matters, will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
