Last week had a fantastic Texas-LSU game that was the perfect way to cap off your day. This week, we get the best games in early, but the nightcap should have plenty of action to keep you awake.

A quick note about the Watchability Rating: It is intended to be a quick guide to how interesting the game would be to the average Big 12 fan.  Obviously, if your team is involved, you will probably want to watch the game.  The rating can also be affected by how difficult it is to find the game, both by channel selection and timing of the game. Being on an obscure channel or in a crowded or extreme time slot will normally knock the rating down a slot.

We get a bit of a reprieve this week, as none of the games are on ESPN’s streaming network, ESPN+. However, more and more games will only be available this way. This is especially true with the new Big 12 network, Big 12 Now, being a part of ESPN+.

If you’re thinking about signing up, go here to here check out a free trial. This is the super exciting part for us. We’ve partnered with ESPN+. So, when you use our link, not only do you get to watch your favorite team’s game, but you also help support the LGG. Plus you get the Big 12 Now network and things like the Miles to Go miniseries. As Michael Scott would say, it’s a win, win, win! So go check it out.

Watchability Ratings

  • 📺📺📺📺📺 – Drop Everything. This game is must-watch television. Whether you have to stream it on your phone because you’re stuck at the mall with your significant other, or you kick everyone out of the room so that they stop walking in front of the TV, make sure that you don’t miss a second of this game.
  • 📺📺📺📺 – This is primary viewing and should be the main game that you watch during this time slot.  It will be entertaining to anyone who turns it on. Feel free to flip around to check on other games during commercials or timeouts. Just make sure you come back quickly.
  • 📺📺📺 – Make sure you have another screen to follow this one, whether it’s a second television or streaming on a laptop or your phone. You’ll want to be able to look over quickly for big plays.
  • 📺📺 – It’s worth keeping track, but don’t feel the need to pay close attention. If the current game gets out of hand, this one might be interesting, so check to see if you have a way to turn it on, especially during commercials.
  • 📺 – Don’t bother trying to watch this one. It will be a blowout or really ugly. You can find out what happened later without subjecting yourself to this.

Kansas vs Boston College

When: FRI, SEP 13 at 6:30 PM CT
TV: ACC Network | Stream: WatchESPN
Watchability: 📺📺

This game will be harder to find than most. It likely won’t be very compelling, especially late. There is a chance that the offense could figure it out and put on a show, so you might want to watch. But it’s much more likely that you won’t want to watch past the first quarter.

Kansas State vs Mississippi State

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 11:00 AM CT
TV: ESPN | Stream: WatchESPN
Watchability: 📺📺📺📺

Kansas State actually looks prepared for this one, but Mississippi State is a much stronger team than I thought they would be starting the year. Unless the strength of the lines has been a complete mirage, this should be one of the best games of the early slot.

NC State vs West Virginia

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 11:00 AM CT
TV: FS1 | Stream: Fox Sports Go
Watchability: 📺📺

Knowing how the Big 12 non-conference slate works, one of the two morning games will be compelling, one will be a snooze-fest. With plenty of other interesting action, this one is only important to see if West Virginia is actually racing Kansas to the bottom of the conference.

Oklahoma State vs Tulsa

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 2:30 PM CT
TV: ESPN2 | Stream: WatchESPN
Watchability: 📺📺📺

This one will be a nice appetizer for the main event. But Tulsa’s on field performance will likely be as bad as their mascots. Don’t worry about missing any drama once the ISU game starts.

#19 Iowa vs Iowa State

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 3:00 PM CT
TV: FS1 | Stream: Fox Sports GoWatchability: 📺📺📺📺📺

The best game of the day. Like, in the whole country, not just the Big 12. If you aren’t watching this one, you can’t really call yourself a college football fan. Either that or you have an irrational hatred for corn.

TCU vs Purdue

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 6:30 PM CT
TV: BTN | Stream: Fox Sports Go
Watchability: 📺📺📺📺

Clemson-Syracuse gets top billing in the timeslot. However, there is a high chance that the Orange gets boat raced. This should be fairly competitive, so if you get BTN, tune in.

#5 Oklahoma vs UCLA

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 6:30 PM CT
TV: FOX | Stream: Fox Sports GoWatchability: 📺📺📺

Yes, there isn’t really much else on. Yes, there is a chance that this one might be competitive if UCLA can find some Chip Kelly magic. No, I don’t actually expect that to happen. But I’ve heard that Chip Kelly is unintentionally funny when he’s pissed off, so it might be worth checking in on occasionally.

#12 Texas vs Rice

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 7:00 PM CT
TV: CBSSN | Stream: Fox Sports Go
Watchability: 📺📺

The only reason to tune into this one is if you are a Longhorn fan. Otherwise, it will only take about 10 minutes to figure out if there will be a post-LSU hangover here. You’ll probably already be engaged in the TCU-Purdue game by this point though..

Texas Tech vs Arizona

When: SAT, SEP 14 at 9:30 PM CT
TV: ESPN | Stream: Fox Sports Go
Watchability: 📺📺📺📺

This one doesn’t have any competition, like at all. It should be fairly entertaining, with two high-powered offenses. If you are fine with staying up late, this is one you won’t want to miss.
